By accessing or using compilelog.com, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site. These terms govern your use of all content, tools, downloadable materials, and services available at compilelog.com and any subdomains.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

1. About CompileLog

CompileLog is a technical research and tooling hub operated by an individual based in the United Kingdom. It publishes free writeups, open security tools, downloadable lab environments, written guides, and offers AI automation services for small businesses. Content is published as it is built — this is a working log, not a polished commercial platform.

2. Use of Free Content

2.1 Writeups

All content published under /writeups is free to read. You may share links to writeups freely. You may quote short excerpts (a few sentences) with clear attribution to compilelog.com and a link back to the original. You may not reproduce full writeups, republish them as your own work, scrape them in bulk for AI training datasets, or use them in any commercial context without written permission.

2.2 Tools

Tools published under /tools are made available under their respective open source licences, which are stated in each tool's GitHub repository. Where no licence is stated, the tool is provided for personal and educational use only — commercial use requires written permission. Use of any tool from this site is entirely at your own risk. See section 6.

2.3 Downloadable Lab Environments

Lab files available under /labs are provided for personal, educational, and research use. You may use them on your own systems, in isolated lab environments, or in controlled research contexts. You may not redistribute lab files, publish them elsewhere, resell them, or use them outside of security research and education contexts. Labs are intentionally designed to contain vulnerable software — they must be run in isolated environments (virtual machines with network isolation). See section 6.

2.4 Guides

Written guides available under /guides are provided for personal and educational use. The same sharing and reproduction rules apply as for writeups (section 2.1). Guides may not be republished, redistributed as commercial training material, or used to create derivative paid products without written permission.

3. Optional Financial Support

CompileLog accepts voluntary financial support via Ko-fi, GitHub Sponsors, or similar platforms linked from this site. Support is entirely optional. No content that is free will be moved behind a paywall as a result of insufficient support. Paying support does not create a contract, entitle you to specific deliverables, guarantee ongoing content, or grant any additional rights beyond what is already provided to all visitors.

Support contributions are non-refundable unless the platform through which they were made has its own refund process — in that case, refer to that platform's terms. CompileLog will not issue refunds directly, as the site operator does not process payments directly.

4. Future Paid Products and Services

4.1 Premium Guides and Labs

If premium content tiers are introduced in the future, the following terms will apply:

  • Purchases are for personal use only and are non-transferable
  • Purchased content may not be redistributed, resold, shared in bulk, or used to create competing products
  • Refund requests for digital content will be considered on a case-by-case basis within 7 days of purchase, where the content is demonstrably not as described — contact [email protected]
  • CompileLog reserves the right to update, revise, or discontinue content — where content is materially changed after purchase, reasonable notice will be given

4.2 Automation Services

When the /automation section goes live and bespoke AI automation services are offered to clients, each engagement will be governed by a separate written service agreement. These terms of service do not constitute a service contract. The service agreement for each client will cover: scope of work, deliverables, timeline, payment terms, intellectual property ownership, confidentiality, and liability.

These general terms apply in the absence of a signed service agreement for any exploratory or informal interaction.

5. Acceptable Use

By using this site and any materials from it, you agree not to:

  • Use any tool, lab environment, script, or technique from this site against systems you do not own or do not have explicit written permission to test
  • Use any content from this site to facilitate unauthorised access to computer systems, networks, or data
  • Use any content from this site to cause harm, harassment, or damage to individuals, organisations, or infrastructure
  • Represent content from this site as your own original work
  • Scrape, mirror, or systematically download content from this site for AI training, resale, or bulk redistribution
  • Attempt to circumvent any technical measures on the site or linked platforms
  • Use this site in any way that violates applicable law, including the Computer Misuse Act 1990 (UK), UK GDPR, or any other relevant legislation

Important note on security research: CompileLog publishes offensive security content, techniques, and tools for educational and research purposes. This content is intended for use in authorised penetration testing, CTF competitions, personal lab environments, and legitimate security research. Applying any technique or tool from this site to systems without explicit authorisation is illegal under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 regardless of what you read here. CompileLog accepts no responsibility for misuse.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

CompileLog and all content, tools, lab files, and guides are provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. This includes but is not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, reliability, or non-infringement.

CompileLog does not warrant that:

  • The site will be available at all times or free from interruption
  • Content is accurate, current, or complete
  • Tools are free from bugs, vulnerabilities, or defects
  • Downloadable lab environments are safe to run outside of isolated conditions
  • Any technique described will work in all environments or against all targets

Lab environments contain intentionally vulnerable software. Running them outside of properly isolated virtual machines with no network access to production systems or the internet is done entirely at your own risk.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CompileLog and its operator shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from:

  • Use or inability to use the site or any content on it
  • Use of any tool, script, or downloadable material from the site
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in any content
  • Unauthorised access to or alteration of your data
  • Any third-party content or platforms linked from this site
  • Any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunities

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless explicitly stated otherwise:

  • All original written content (writeups, guides, policy documents) is the intellectual property of the CompileLog operator
  • All original tool code is released under the licence specified in the relevant GitHub repository — where no licence is specified, all rights are reserved
  • Lab environment packages may include third-party software under their own respective licences — these are identified within each lab package

Nothing in these terms grants you any rights to the CompileLog name, domain, or brand.

9. Third-Party Links and Platforms

This site links to third-party platforms including GitHub, Ko-fi, and others. CompileLog is not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party site. Links are provided for convenience — their inclusion does not constitute endorsement.

10. Availability and Changes to the Site

CompileLog makes no commitment to maintain the site, maintain any specific content, or publish content on any particular schedule. Content may be updated, revised, moved, or removed at any time without notice.

These terms of service may be updated at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Where changes are material, reasonable notice will be given via the site homepage.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

13. Entire Agreement

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy at compilelog.com/privacy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CompileLog regarding your use of this site and supersede all prior agreements, representations, or understandings. Where a separate written service agreement exists (as described in section 4.2), that agreement governs the specific engagement.
